Pinewood Derby

Get ready for an exciting day of racing! Our annual pinewood derby is a fun filled day of racing wooden blocks over 100 mph down a track.

Our 2024 Pinewood Derby will be held February 24th 2024 starting at 12:00PM at the parish center. We expect this activity to go to 4:00PM. We will have food and drink (pizza, salads, and a special dessert!) in the cafeteria, games and activities for the kids, and all scouts will get a patch for participating!

Race Format

• Each racer will have a chance to win 1st – 3rd place in each of their dens (Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Webelos, AOL).
• All cars will register with our Derby judges prior to the event. The cars will be checked for the following:
  • Cars must be no longer than 7″ or wider than 2 3/4″ including the wheelbase.
  • Cars must weight at or under 5 oz.
  • Cars must use all materials in the box, including the wheels. Only BSA wheels will be qualified to race for a trophy.
• Each car will race 4 times on each lane of the track. The best time for each car will count towards the standings.
• The top 8 racers, based on best time, will race for the Pack championship.
• The top 3 cars in that heat will win 1st – 3rd Pack overall trophy.
• All Times and standing will be published to the pack’s website at the end of the weekend.

Fan Favorite Award

We will also have a fan favorite trophy based on votes at the race. Each racer will get a voting card and will get a chance to vote their favorite car prior to the race starting.

Car Pre-Check

We will have the official scale and car template available at our next meeting this Tuesday (2/20). This is a good opportunity to check your cars for any last-minute updates prior to the event.

Volunteers Needed!

We do need volunteers to help conduct the event. We are looking for 3 judges, help with track setup, decorating, and officiating the event. Please reach out to Doug Jenkins at [email protected] to help.
